Sometimes an outside perspective is all you need to redirect your focus and recharge your batteries. Sometimes you need a kick in the pants. Often you need an experienced consultant who can do both, as well as analyze your business, help you identify the opportunities for (and obstacles preventing) your success.
Lack of sales is rarely the problem; it’s a symptom. Find the root cause, fix that and the sales may come on their own, or you may then need to analyze your sales approach. Either way, fix the root cause first (it may be your business strategy, a poorly defined or [worse] undefined target market or an issue elsewhere in the business).
Together we will look at the entire business, help you uncover the causes of your current struggles or identify opportunities for growth and then address them head on. We will focus on sales, but as an end result of getting the entire business (and the people in it) aligned properly. I work in Knoxville, Tennessee and surrounding areas, and also am available to travel. Below is an overview of some of the services I provide.
Not all businesses are sustainable. It’s a fact. Acceptance of this fact is where our engagement begins.
You’ve poured vast amounts of blood, sweat, tears and of course, cash, into your baby. You have a great idea or a great product or service and you believe you’re ready to “go to market,” and that this creation of yours is going to sell like hotcakes. You have one big problem, however. You don’t know how to sell. Your business experience thus far has not required building a sales organization, creating a value proposition, identifying your target market, understanding the difference between your end user and your customer. You have no idea how to tell the world about your beautiful baby.
“Simple,” you think, “I’ll go out and recruit a great sales person. I’ll sell them on my idea and convince them to jump on board in exchange for the promise of future revenues and, of course, equity in my valuable company.” (After all, who wouldn’t want a piece of this upside potential!) The problem here is that you will have great trouble finding an accomplished sales person willing to hang their paycheck on a gamble that your product or service has merit and will produce revenue, especially if you don’t have existing sales and/or a plan for creating them.
The true answer is that you’ve got some work to do before you are ready to start pounding the pavement with an aggressive sales person. You must take the time to conduct your market research, talk to prospective clients, identify your target market (and yes I know “everyone” is a potential customer but yes you do have to narrow down your target market much more specifically), identify your target’s pain points, discover how to mold your product and your story into a solution to that pain (some of this may require product modifications), create collateral and, bottom line: develop a plan for sales and marketing.
This cycle can take 3 – 6 months, on average, depending on where you are in your process when we partner together. You and I will work very closely during this time and we will uncover the items described above, and many more.
At the end of this process you are not guaranteed success. What I guarantee you is clarity. Back to the acceptance piece referenced earlier. One of two things will happen for you by the conclusion of our engagement:

After obtaining a B.S. in International Business with a Spanish minor, I spent 7 years in sales and marketing for the high tech industry. I then dedicated a full year to studying graduate psychology before securing my MBA in Finance as well as Innovation & Entrepreneurship from the University of Tennessee. Add to that 4+ years in sales and marketing in the health sector, another 7+ years of business ownership and a wide range of coaching/consulting projects along the way and you come close to having a picture of my background on paper.
